Benjamin V. Doto Sr.

DotoBenjamin V. Doto Sr.
(1936)

Ben was a two-way starting quarterback in a single wing formation for the highly successful 1934 and 1935 DHS football team coached by Gideon Roy. In addition to his leadership qualities as quarterback, Ben was junior class president and played for the varsity nine. He was offered a football scholarship at Niagara University. But before college classes started, he was called back home because his father was ill and his family needed his help. The son of Italian immigrants, he was the proprietor of Ben’s Workingmen’s Store for 55 years. Very civic-minded, Ben was a member the Danbury Common Council and the Board of Education. He also served as president of the Danbury Old Timers Association, Industrial Golf League, and Exchange Club.
