Dear Danbury High School Families,

WOW! We are already through the first quarter of the year. Our freshmen have adjusted nicely and our seniors are busy preparing their college applications. The construction on the front of the building is just about finished and the other areas are on or close to schedule.

As quarter 1 comes to a close this Friday, November 9th, it is important for you to check your child’s grades on PowerSchool. Please note that grades will not be finalized until November 17th. We will not be mailing home report cards home as all the information can be found by using the Parent Portal. If you do not have a parent account please contact your child’s school counselor.

Danbury High School (DHS) will be holding its annual Parent/Teacher Conferences on Monday, November 20th from 2:30 to 5:00pm and from 6:00-8:30pm. DHS uses a program called Canyon Creek to organize the conferences. The window for setting conferences opens on Tuesday, November 7th. At that time you can login to make the appointments. Access to the Conference Scheduler can be found on the DHS website under the ‘Links’ tab. If you do not have access to a computer you can call your child’s level office for assistance. In order to view or delete an appointment, you will need your confirmation number. Please make a note of it when scheduling conferences.

The school-to-home connection is very important. Please try to make appointments and attend the conferences in order to gather a better understanding of what is going on in the classroom.

Just because it gets cold outside and snow may begin to fall, we do not slow down at DHS. Our winter sports will be starting in late November. You can go to our Athletics page on the DHS website for details. Mr. Burnett and his crew will continue the journey to their production of High School Musical. Lastly, we will continue to monitor how our seniors are progressing on the journey to post-secondary planning.

Warmest regards,

Dan Donovan

Need help completing your FAFSA?

On Monday, November 20th representatives from Western Connecticut State University (WCSU) will be available in our media center to help you complete your student’s FAFSA. This assistance is available to all students regardless of the school they plan to attend. There will be two counselors (one Spanish speaking) available from 2:00 p.m. to 8:00 pm. If you are interested in receiving help with the FAFSA, please call your school counselor to make an appointment with a WCSU representative on November 20th.

Students and families should come prepared with their 2016 income tax information, 2016 tax returns, W-2s and social security numbers. We encourage each student and one parent/guardian to set up their FSA ID at https://fsaid.ed.gov/npas/index.htm in advance of November 20th. If you are unable to do this, the representatives from Western Connecticut State University can assist you with this also.

If you have any questions, please contact your student’s school counselor.
