This 2015 Danbury High School Hall of Fame inductee was the 2003 Connecticut Wrestler of the Year, Anthony Hayes. During his junior and senior years, Anthony compiled an 86-2 individual record. Anthony was also the recipient of the Dave Schultz Excellence Award, presented annually by the National Wrestling Hall of Fame to a high school senior based on outstanding wrestling success, scholastic achievement and citizenship or community service. During Anthony’s junior and senior years, the Danbury High wrestling team had a 47-2 record. They won the FCIAC’s and both the LL and Connecticut Open State Championships. Individually, during his junior and senior years at DHS, Anthony was a two-time All-American, two-time All-New England runner-up, two-time State Open champ, twotime LL champ, two- time FCIAC champ and All-Area. After his graduation from Danbury High in 2003, Anthony continued his academic and athletic career at Sacred Heart University. Currently, Anthony works as a drug and alcohol counselor for Retreat at Lancaster County in Ephrata, Pennsylvania. He has given back to the Danbury wrestling community through service at clubs and summer camps. He coached at Immaculate High School from 2007-2010. From 2009-2011, Anthony trained and coached wrestlers from Fairfield County through the 203 Wrestling Club, which he started. He will next be taking on the challenge of Admissions Director for Retreat at Palm Beach County.
