In the Exploration Academy students are in a teaming structure that creates a smaller learning community to support incoming 9th graders as they transition to high school. This comprehensive teamed approach enables academy staff to implement targeted interventions, facilitate project based interdisciplinary learning experiences, and build strong relationships with families. This academy exposes students to the enduring theme of inquiry and exploration; the curricula draws emphasis to the power behind inquisitive minds and what it means to be a lifelong learner. Planned experiences also provide endless opportunities for students to explore their interests and future aspirations as they prepare to enter a specialized academy in 10th grade.

EXPLORATION SEMINAR COURSE

The goal of this course is to help students build an understanding of their own career aspirations and aptitudes so that they may effectively select an Academy pathway.  Throughout the course, students will engage in a variety of activities that will encourage reflection to deepen their understanding of their career aspirations and promote student assessment of their specific goals regarding future professional ambitions.  By using tools such as YouScience and completing work simulations, students will build an understanding of what they need to do in high school in order to realize their career dreams.

This course satisfies a graduation requirement.
