Catherine Ann Chakar-Iyengar
(Basketball, 1987)

The 1986-1987 DHS Girls Basketball team had the luxury of having not one but two Danbury Hall of Fame inductees on their squad-Lisa Mikelic and Catherine Ann "Kay" Chakar-Iyenger. The Mikelic-Chakar duo provided a one two punch that opposing defenses had a very difficult time trying to stop. The list of individual honors received by Kay is long as she was an All FCIAC choice in both her junior and senior years as well as being a News-Times All Area player for the same two years. She was a KC101 Player of the Week and Burger King Athlete of the Week. She set a school record 24 rebounds against Darien and finished her high school career with 872 points. She also played softball and was a 2nd team All FCIAC performer and also ran cross country. Kay was an outstanding student and was selected for induction to the National Honor Society. After high school Kay entered Niagara University and played four years there and the Magna Cum Laude graduate was named to the MAAC All Academic team in 1991. Kay continued her schooling and received graduate degrees from Fairfield University in 1993 and Saint Joseph University in 1998. In addition to being a member of the DHS National Honor Society in high school she was a member of three National Honor Societies while attending college.
