Lonnie Young started young and played varsity football for "Copper" Crotty in the late 1950's as a freshman. He was an elusive running back and led the Hatters in both scoring and rushing in the1959 season. After high school Lonnie played four years for the Stamford Golden Bears, which was a minor league affiliate of the New York Giants. When he finally hung up the cleats Lonnie continued to stay active by participating in martial arts in Korean Karate and earning a black belt in three and a half years. Additionally he engaged in drag racing and motorcycle hill climbing throughout his life and he still drives his Harley today! Lonnine took his passion for martial arts and opened a martial arts school at the War Memorial, which he ran for seventeen years. For twenty-nine years Lonnie worked for the City Of Danbury in the Water Department. After retirement he discovered golf and he plays as often as he possibly can.
