 Boughton Mayor Mark D. Boughton
Civic / Teacher, 1982

A Danbury High graduate of the class of 1982, Mark Boughton is being inducted into the Athletic Hall of Fame for his many civic contributions.  He is serving his eighth term in office, making him the longest serving mayor in Danbury's history.  Born and raised in Danbury, Mayor Boughton attended Danbury Public Schools and graduated from Danbury High School in 1982.  Upon graduation he remained in his home state and attended Central Connecticut State University, earning a Bachelor of Science degree in History.  He went on to receive his master's degree in Educational Psychology from Western Connecticut State University in Danbury.

Mark served in the United States Army Reserve from 1983 to 1989 where he achieved the rank of sergeant.  He returned to Danbury High School in 1987 to teach Social Studies, as a highly regarded educator.  He has been and continues to be a leading advocate of quality education for all children.  He always had a deep love for public service and Mark served as a member of the Danbury Planning Commission from 1995 to 1998 and later went on to serve three years as Connecticut's 138th District State Representative.  During that time Boughton achieved a perfect voting record in the General Assembly, where he was ranking member of the Environment Committee, as well as member of the Education Committee.

While in office, Mayor Boughton has been committed to a top notch education system, the revitalization of downtown, infrastructure enhancement, improving quality of life issues, and expanding citizens' access to government.  His "People Over Politics" philosophy has evolved into a bi-partisan form of governing.  In the last two years Mayor Boughton has dedicated himself to downsizing and reorganizing our government to better serve the people of Danbury.  Mayor Boughton is devoted to making Danbury the "greatest place to live, work and be educated."  The Danbury High School Athletic Hall of Fame appreciates his continued support.
