Thomas Goodell
(Wrestling, 1973)
This 2024 Danbury High School Athletic Hall of Fame inductee was a State Champion in
wrestling in 1973 at 167 pounds and was also the Connecticut Freestyle champion at 188
pounds, Doctor Thomas Goodell. In the early days of the DHS wrestling program, the team was
7-7 in 1969-70, and 12-0 in 1970-71. During his junior year, the team was 11-2. His senior
season, the team was 10-3, and Thomas was 16-1. In his run to the state championship,
Thomas had to defeat opponents from Manchester High School, Ledyard High School, and in
the final match, the opponent was from East Catholic High School.
After his 1973 graduation from Danbury High School, Thomas continued his education at
Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute in Troy, New York earning a B.S. degree in biology. He
received his medical degree from the State University of New York at Buffalo. Thomas
completed his residency in family practice at Silas B. Hayes Army Community Hospital located
in Fort Ord, California. From 1984-1988 Thomas practiced at Martin Hospital in Fort Benning,
Georgia. He is board certified in Family Medicine.
After serving several years as a family practice physician in the Rural Health Clinic,
Thomas transitioned to serving as a Hospitalist. During his tenure at Mount San Rafael Hospital
and Clinic, he also served as Chief of Staff and as a board member for the Las Animas County
Health Services District.
