Jane DeMarco-Ott
(Track, 1983)
1983 was the culmination of
the outstanding three season career of Jane DeMarco. The list of
accolades and awards is impressive as she was a three time All-State in
Cross Country, three time All FCIAC in Cross Country, three time ALL
FCIAC in Indoor Track, and one time All State in Outdoor Track. She set
the school record for the 3000 meters in Indoor Track and a school
record in Cross Country. Her 5000 meter run in 1983 was the 7th fastest
in the country that year. She served as team captain for Cross Country
in both her junior and senior years. As impressive as her high school
career was her college career at the University of Pennsylvania was
every bit as impressive. Jane was an All Ivy League selection in the
3000 meters and All East in the same event. She was selected to a
combined Penn/Cornell team which competed in England and Ireland, she
was captain of the Quaker Cross Country team in 1986 and took 1st place
in the 5000 meters at the Yale Invitational in 1986. Jane is on Penn’s
all time top list in the 3000 meters, 5000 meters and the 10,000 meters.
Jane received a degree from the Wharton School of Business she became a
CPA and began work as an accountant while still keeping up with her
running. After her second child was born and injuries piled s up she
became a stay at home mother of three and a recreational runner.
