Fred Morlock
(Football, 1959)
The third brother of the
great Morlock family is 1959 DHS graduate Fred Morlock. Fred’s sports
were football and track. On the football field Fred was a three-year
starter on both offense and defense. Fred scored 21 touchdowns in his
high school football career and was rewarded with a spot on the New
Haven Register All-State team, a roster spot in the 2nd annual Nutmeg
Bowl Game, and he was the winner of the prestigious Kiwanis Football
Award. The team record during Fred’s tenure in football was 22-4. As a
contributer on the track team Fred competed in the 100 yard dash, the
200 yard dash, the discuss, the 880 yard run, the shotput and sprint
relays. After graduation from high school Fred attended Danbury State
College (now Western Connecticut State University) and graduated from
there in 1965. Fred and Linda, his wife of 42 years have three children,
David, Tom and Robin. In 2001 Fred retired after 35 years as Vice
President of Manufacturing of Vanguard Products of Danbury. After high
school, Fred continued his athletic career. He played in the Danbury
Industrial Golf League for 20 years but really stood out in the Danbury
Industrial Softball League where he played for 23 years, winning three
batting titles and two MVP awards. He was nominated for the league Hall
of Fame
