Mary Kennen-LaPenta
(Track, 1983)
This 1983 graduate excelled in Track while at DHS. Her versatility is exemplified in the many events in which she was a champion. She was the FCIAC Champion High Jumper for three years as well as the Javelin Champion for two years and the 50 meter Hurdles Champion for 1 year. In addition she was able to win the league Long Jump Championship one year. She followed that up be being the State Champion in the High Jump two years and the State Champion in the Javelin throw for three years running. She also was the Eastern States High Jump Champion for one year. In 1983 she garnered the Army Reserve National Scholar/Athlete Award for Academic Excellence. A 1987 graduate of the University of Connecticut she competed on the track team for four years. Her accomplishments there included the Big East Champion in the javelin for two years, Big East Champion the high jump for two years, New England Champion in the high jump for two years, and one1 year as the New England Pentathlon Champion. As captain of the team she received the Outstanding Senior Award in 1987 and UCONN's Athletic Award for Distinguished Service to the University in 1987.
