Angelo Marrero
(Football, 2002)
This 2002 graduate was a
letterman in three sports, football, basketball, and track, 2012 Hall of
Fame inductee, Angelo Marrero. Over his football career, Angelo scored
48 touchdowns and rushed for 3,030 yards, second in DHS history. He also
had 28 career receptions for a total of 848 yards, and he is tied with
Jason Lynch (’90) for the school record of longest kick-off return for a
touchdown. Angelo earned All-FCIAC honors in both 2000 and 2001 and was
football captain in 2000. In basketball, Angelo, was a four-year
letterman, and he scored 681 points over his career. His teams went
43-40 and made the state tournament all four years that he was a varsity
player. During his senior year, Angelo was team captain and MVP of the
Danbury News-Times Tip-Off Classic and named to the all-tournament team
in both 2000 and 2001. He was also named to the all-tournament team of
the Ridgefield Rebound Club Anaconda Basketball Classic in 1999. During
his senior season, Angelo was named to the All-FCIAC West team. Angelo
garnered many honors in 2000 for the track team. He was the anchor for
the 4 x 100 and 4 x 200 relay teams. He was All-FCIAC in both the 4 x
100 relay and 200 meter dash. Angelo was also All-State LL in the 200
meter dash and the 4 x 100 relay. While at Danbury High, Angelo was a
member of the National Honor Society and recipient of the Exchange Club
Youth of the Month in December 2001. Angelo was also the 2002 Kiwanis
Sportsman of the Year. He also received scholarships from the Hord
Foundation and the Danbury News-Times Tip-Off Classic. After his
graduation from Danbury High School, Angelo received his BS from Central
Connecticut University and his MS from the University of Bridgeport. He
is currently a Social Studies teacher at Danbury High School and an
assistant football and basketball coach.
