Ray Boa
(Soccer, 1973)
The Danbury High School soccer
team started making great strides as the dominant soccer program in the
greater Danbury area in the early 1970’s. At the forefront of that rise
was 1973 graduate Ray Boa. Ray was a three year starter on the Hatter
soccer squad and was captain of the 1972 team. In his senior season he
was the second leading scorer on the team behind the area’s leading
scorer and fellow captain Steve Konstantinides. The Hatters finished
that season with a 10-1-1 record after being eliminated in an upset loss
to New Canaan. The DHS team was ranked #2 in the state at that time.
After high school Ray continued his soccer career at Western Connecticut
State College. His post high school career was even more impressive
than his high school career. He played four years for the Colonials and
was named Outstanding Soccer Player for the 1976 WestConn team. His
efforts at WestConn earned Ray induction to the WesConn Athletic Hall of
Fame in 2001. In the years following his WestConn graduation Ray has
been actively involved in the Danbury community in a variety of
capacities. He coached and still coaches the Danbury Dragons Youth
Soccer team, he was a player-coach for the Portuguese American Club, is a
member of the Board of Directors at Danbury Hospital and the Board of
Trustees of Union Savings Bank. His involvement with the Portuguese Club
has extended well beyond playing and coaching as he has served in the
capacity of President of the Board of Directors and the Board of
Trustees for that institution.
