Warren Connor
(Football, 1961)

A 1961 graduate of Danbury High, Warren Connor was an outstanding athlete in three sports: football, baseball and golf. But Warren is especially remembered for his exploits on the football field where he was a three year starter. Along with teammates Ben Doto and Rudy Kuss, Conner played on football teams that lost only two games in four years, and he remembers losing a memorable game to Hillhouse High School of New Haven by a score of 44-42. During his senior season he was the team's leading scorer. For the Hatter's baseball squad, Warren was a three year varsity starter and captain his senior year. In 1961 he led the team in batting and homeruns. After his 1961 graduation from Danbury High, Warren went on to play football at the University of Connecticut where he received both an athletic and academic scholarship. At UConn his sophomore year he started at halfback and played defense. After an injury, Warren transferred to Western Connecticut State University where he played baseball and served as captain his senior year. After his graduation from WCSU, Warren taught middle school in Danbury for 35 years. He ran many activities and trips which were designed to lead disadvantaged students to succeed in both high school and college. He also served as a little league coach. Warren also played softball for Delta Electric, later Kovacs Tire, in the Danbury Industrial League, where he is fondly remembered for his prolific homeruns and MVP awards. Sadly, Warren recently passed in July 2011 but his athletic achievements at Danbury High live on.
