Rolf Topik
(1945)
Born in Leipzig Germany in 1927, Rolf was the youngest of five brothers whose family were German Jewish refugees who came to Danbury in 1937. When he got to Danbury High School, Rolf had the nickname “Tup” because of his speed in gym class. Coach Gideon Roy noticed the speedy runner and recruited him for the football team. Bringing the football equipment home to get his mother’s permission to play, the hip pads reminded her of a German girdle and the ball was shaped like a zeplin. Besides being a speedy runner on the football team, Rolf was also a sprinter on the track team. He graduated from DHS in just three years and attended Brown University. A successful stockbroker later in life, Rolf passed away in 2007.
