Stacie-Ann (Egbert) Benjamin
(Track, 2002)

Stacie-Ann Egbert Benjamin was once described by Coach Kevin Wilcox as “an unbelievable athlete. She’s the best athlete I’ve ever coached,” After her immigration from Jamaica, Stacie-Ann had no interest in participating in sports. But with her family’s encouragement, Stacie-Ann went on to be an impact athlete in both indoor and outdoor track at DHS. In 2002, the DHS girls’ track team won the FCIAC championship. In that championship meet, Stacie was a double individual winner, earning gold medals in both the long jump and the javelin. While at DHS Stacie was part of three outdoor track records, the long jump, and the 4 X 200, and the 4 X 400 (both relays with teammates Heather Bourgault Fraticelli, Kelly Graham, and Lauren DellaVolpe). In 2002, Stacie-Ann won the state Heptathlon competition by a margin of 206 points. Finishing sixth after the first day of competition, she stormed back to a thrilling win on day two by winning the long jump, the javelin and the 800 meter to become the 2002 winner of the prestigious state of Connecticut Heptathlon competition. After Stacie’s 2002 graduation from Danbury High School, she attended Mohawk Valley Community College in Utica, New York where she participated in both indoor and outdoor track. In 2003, Stacie was eight times All-American in the heptathlon, the long jump, the triple jump, the high jump, 600 meters, 4 X 400, 200 meters, and the javelin. Mohawk Valley Community College was the 2003 National Champ. In 2004, Stacie was named first team All-American in cross country and she was a seven time All-American in seven outdoor track events. Stacie still holds Mohawk Valley Community College school records in the long jump, indoor and outdoor triple jump, and the 600meter indoor. In 2005, Stacie continued her academic and athletic career at Southern Connecticut State University. She was two time All-American in both the long and triple jump. While competing at Southern, she was name MVP of the Yale championships, winning the long jump, triple jump and high jump. She was twice named Southern’s Field Athlete of the Year.
