Maura P. Keenan
(Basketball, 1989)
This 1989 DHS graduate
achieved All-State status in three team sports, volleyball, basketball,
and softball, 2012 Hall of Fame inductee, Maura Keenan. Maura was a
three year starter on both the volleyball and softball teams and a
basketball starter her senior year while an honor student at Danbury
High School. Aside from being All-State, Maura was also a captain for
all three sports and received All-FCIAC and News-Times All Area honors
several times. In basketball, she averaged 19 points and 11 rebounds as a
power forward her senior year. While at DHS, Maura played in three
Class LL championship games, twice with basketball and once with
softball. All three times, Danbury fell to Southington. In basketball
Maura was also a High School Coaches Association All-Star pick. After
her graduation from Danbury High School, Maura continued her education
and athletic career at Ithaca College. While at Ithaca, Maura played
both basketball and softball, serving as captain for both teams. She was
a top ten rebounder in basketball and ECAC MVP. While in college, Maura
was a double major in finance and recreational management. Currently,
Maura works for the YMCA but has stayed involved in youth sports in
various capacities. She has worked as an AAU basketball coach with the
Wesconn Fillies and as an assistant women’s basketball coach at Western
Connecticut State University. She has worked at ESPN, Pace University
and was the girls basketball coach at Brookfield High School for four
years. Working with Bob Guerera, she helped raise funding for the PAL
building.
