This 2013 Hall of Fame Inductee was named the Danbury High School 1968 Athlete of the Year. His senior year at DHS was filled with many accomplishments. Under first year coach, Harry Hyra, the basketball program experienced a revival and made it to the state tournament with a record of 11-9. Harry was named to the All-Area team and was a defensive specialist and spirited leader. In baseball, Harry is considered one of the best players to graduate from Danbury High. He was a three-year starter who pitched and was an amazing shortstop. During his senior season, the team went 12-5, with Harry going 6-1 as a pitcher. He batted .385 and held the school record with twenty-two hits. He was named All-FCIAC shortstop and All-Area pitcher. After his graduation from Danbury High, Harry took his stellar glove to the University of Connecticut where he continued to earn honors. He played one year of freshman ball and three years of varsity baseball, starting at shortstop for all three years. For many years he held the school record for single season walks, 30 and runs, 27. His college career of total walks was 82. In 1970 he was named the second team shortstop of the Yankee Conference. The 1972 season was a great one for both Harry and the UCONN baseball team. In a May 28, 1972 game versus Harvard, Harry recorded a Division I NCAA record thirteen assists. That same 1972 team with Harry as their shortstop went to the College World Series and finished fifth in the nation. Harry batted 3 for 11 at the 1972 College World Series. UCONN’s baseball record with Harry as starting shortstop was 58-21, the highest win percentage in school history, 71%. After his graduation from UCONN with a degree in physical education, Harry continued playing with the Montreal Royals of the North American Fast Pitch Softball League. He continued his play locally with various softball, baseball and basketball leagues. Harry is Danbury High’s current Varsity Softball
