Richard Davis

 Davis Richard "Rick" Davis
Coach
Rick Davis was a beloved Danbury High School football coach and math teacher who passed away in December 2010.  He was an original member of this Hall of Fame committee.  Rick was the Hatter's head coach for eight seasons, from 2001 to 2008.  He posted a career record of 47-36-4 and led Danbury to the FCIAC title games in 2001 and 2003.  The Hatters played in the Class LL state semifinals in 2003, losing a heartbreaker to West Haven, 18-13.

Hatter faithful will remember that game with Danbury quarterback Glen Mourning scoring on a 80-yard run in the third quarter, then hit Leon Breece with a fifteen-yard touchdown in the fourth quarter.  Trailing by five, the Hatters came up short on 4th down from the West Haven 5-yard line with 43 seconds remaining in the game.

Danbury High principal Dan Donovan, who served as an assistant coach under Coach Davis, said, "He was so much more than a football coach.  He absolutely adored all the kids at Danbury High School.  He cared for each and everyone of them.  He would never let winning and losing cloud his judgment.  He would do anything and everything for every one of them, just like he would do for his own family."
