This 2013 DHS Hall of Fame Inductee was a member of the indoor and outdoor track teams that went undefeated in dual meets for four consecutive years (1998-2002). During her four years of participating in outdoor and indoor track, and cross country, Whitney"s teams won an astounding seven FCIAC Western Division Championships, two FCIAC championships and three state championships! Aside from the many team honors, Whitney has been recognized with many individual honors including All-FCIAC in Cross Country, Indoor Track and Outdoor Track, and All-State. She has broken/held school records in outdoor track in the 1600, 800, 4 x 800 and 4 x mile, in indoor track the 1600, 1000, 800, 4 x 800, 4x 750, Distance Medley Relay (DMR), and Sprint Medley Relay (SMR). The 2000 DHS Cross Country team won the State Class LL Championship. Whitney had a stellar senior season. She was the Gatorade "Will to Win" Athlete. She was Danbury High"s Scholar Athlete for Girls in Cross Country, Indoor Track and Outdoor Track. After her graduation from Danbury High, Whitney continued her academic and athletic career at Division I James Madison University in Harrisonburg, Virginia. She was an active member of the varsity track and cross country teams, receiving Colonial Athletic Association Commissioner"s Awards for Academic Achievement in 2003, 2004, 2005 and 2006. She graduated from JMU in 2006 with a B.S. in Communication Science Disorders and a minor in Special Education. From 2007-2009, Whitney attended graduate school at Southern Connecticut State University in New Haven, Connecticut. While at Southern, she placed seventh at the NCAA Northeast Regional Cross Country Meet. Whitney was named to the 2007 First-Team All Northeast Region team, the first woman to finish in the top ten in an NCAA Regional since 1999 (only two places and three seconds away from qualifying for the NCAA Division II Championship). In 2009 Whitney graduated from SCSU with a M.S. in Speech Pathology. Currently a Speech Pathologist for Newtown Public Schools.
