Tony Corte-Real
(Soccer, 1984)
Another of the outstanding
soccer players that played at Danbury High School was 1984 graduate
Antonio “Tony” Corte-Real. Tony was a three year starter for Gary
Donaldson’s squad and was named to the News-Times’ All Area team as a
junior. He had solid success during his first two years on the varsity
but in his senior season Tony really took off as a player, leading the
Hatters in goals with 17 and assists with 25. His efforts earned him
All-FCIAC, All State, All New England and All American honors. The 1983
captain was named team MVP. Tony finished his career with 31 goals and
47 assists. In two of Tony’s four years at DHS the soccer team won the
Western Division of the FCIAC. After high school Tony continued his
playing career at Post College where he was All New England Junior
College and played on the National Junior College Tournament team. Tony
continued playing after college on the Portuguese Club team where they
were state champions and the semi-pro Union Sports where his squad also
won a state championship. Tony contributes to the community by coaching
youth soccer in Danbury.
