Delvin Rodriguez

While at Danbury High School, he compiled a 65-7 record as an amateur training out of the Hat City Boxing Club. After his graduation from Danbury High, Delvin turned pro and won his first professional bout in 1999. Prior to his most recent match, Delvin's professional record was 26 wins with 14 knockouts, six losses and three draws. As a professional boxer, Delvin has received many honors. He is a two-time USBA Welterweight champion and a two-time world title contender. He is ranked 8th in the world and 4th in the United States. Delvin was named 2011 Connecticut Boxer of the Year by the Connecticut Boxing Hall of Fame. Delvin has been featured on ESPN's "Friday Night Fights" television show eleven times throughout his career. His July 15, 2011 rematch with Poland's Pawel Wolak at New York's Roseland Ballroom was selected by SI.com as the Fight of the Year. Delvin was born in 1980 in the Dominican Republic and moved to Danbury in 1989. He attended South Street and Morris Street elementary schools and both Rogers Park and Broadview Middle Schools. Delvin is a 1998 graduate of Danbury High School. Delvin says of his home town, "I was blessed to come to Danbury because that is where I met the one person that is most responsible for most of my success, my first amateur trainer, Mike Salazar. He was not just a trainer but also the man who took care of me like his grandson. He took me to the park my first time, the lake, bought me pizza and most important, showed me the path to success and how to be a leader". On September 7, 2013 Delvin was awarded the Latino de Oro Award in the area of sports from the Hartford-based Spanish-language newspaper, "Identidad Latina."
