This 2019 Danbury High School Athletic Hall of Fame inductee was both an offensive and defensive tackle, Greg Holmes. From 1974-1976, Greg played every play for Coach Gus Edwards. A three year starter, Greg was a tri-captain for the 1976 Danbury High FCIAC Football Championship team. Greg’s 1976 statistics were amazing. According to the Hew Haven Register, Greg had fifteen sacks, six recovered fumbles, three blocked extra points. He also averaged twelve tackles per game.

Greg received many awards for his football career. He was All-Area Defensive tackle for both 1975 and 1976. For his senior year, Greg was All-County defensive tackle and offensive tackle. He was All-New York News offensive tackle and All-Bridgeport Post defensive tackle. An All-State defensive tackle, Greg received the Arthur P. Caillouette Kiwanis Football Award.

After his graduation from Danbury High, continued his academic and athletic career at the University of Rhode Island. From 1977-1980, Greg was an offensive lineman. From 1981-1991, Greg was an assistant football coach at both Danbury High and New Milford High School. For the past 36 ½ years, Greg has been a Social Studies teacher. He is currently Chairman of the Social Studies Department at New Milford High School.
